This course aims to deepen the students’ understanding of the concept of 'creativity' in the context of arts education, be it for adults or children, based on the production or reception of art, in the visual arts, music, literature, etc. We will collectively explore the discourse on creativity in education as represented in the Routledge International Handbook of Creative Learning as well as articles chosen by the students. Students will distill key concepts from the literature and develop a framework with which to conduct and analyse an interview with an arts teacher about the aims and everyday practices of arts education. Students will analyse their interviews and possible observations using methods of qualitative social research that will be discussed in class. The result is a paper on the way a particular arts teacher engages with creativity in his/her work, based on a specific research question. |
