Aims
After successfully finishing the course:
  • You have gained a deeper knowledge of and insight in historical and current trends in the touristic phenomenon central to one of the three selected projects
  • You have acquired practical experience in collecting, evaluating and presenting relevant data about in the touristic phenomenon central to one of the three selected projects, with a critical and constructive focus on political, societal and commercial dimensions
  • You have acquired practical experience in developing new products for a specific market in a specific commercial context
  • You have acquired insight in your own talents and challenges in working as an expert in tourism in a network of regional and municipal policy officers, marketing organisations, heritage institutions and commercial stakeholders.
Content
This course offers you the unique opportunity to acquire hands-on experience with research in and for the field as well as with creating concrete products for the tourism industry. In a small group with about 8-10 students you will carry out a research project for a societal or commercial partner. In previous years, we have focused on three strategies to attract more tourists to the region: by focusing on art heritage (Hieronymus Bosch in Den Bosch), by developing storylines for augmented reality apps (Hanseatic cities) and by connecting cruisetourism to urban tourism (Nijmegen). In 2022 we will cooperate with Africa Museum in Tervuren (Brussels).
