Knowledge
This course offers International Business Communication students a first introduction to the broad field of Organisation and Management. The aim of this course is to familiarise students with the perspective, (basic) concepts, theories, and models of Organisation and Management.

Practical application and reflection
In this course, students will apply theoretical knowledge and reflect upon it in two ways:
  • For a case study, students are asked to apply a concept, theory and/or model from the course to an empirical case (i.e. an organisation). In the process, students need to reflect critically on the usability of the concept, theory and/or model.
  • For the group assignment, students will come up with a report, composed of both analysis and advice for a company of their choice.
Communication
Students are required to hand in reports for both the case study as well as the group assignment. Through these reports, students address both an academic as well as management public.

Study skills
This course requires students to use and develop their skills of individual learning (through an exam) as well as group learning skills (through the case study and group assignment).
Inhoud
Themes covered in the course include an introduction with regard to:
  • The organisational context: explaining organisational behaviour, organisations and their environment, and organisational culture
