The purpose of the course is to provide students with elementary knowledge and skills in the area of descriptive and inferential statistics.
At the end of the course, the student can:
• Perform simple statistical analyses using the statistical program SPSS on data obtained with corpus analyses, experiments and surveys.
• Interpret the statistical results analysed with SPSS and report the results according to the APA conventions.
• Understand statistical concepts and their theoretical and practical consequences, and apply this knowledge in (the interpretation of) statistical analyses. |

A number of aspects of statistics will be discussed, including statistical concepts, frequency distribution, central tendency, normal distribution, central limit theorem, confidence intervals, T-test, correlation coefficient, contingency tables and one-way analysis of variance. |

This course is only open to students who are enrolled in a bachelor of the Faculty of Arts (Letteren) or a bachelor of the Faculty of Philosophy, Theology and Religious studies (FTR).
