The course introduces students to methodological aspects and statistical analyses relating to cross cultural (communication) research. The course focuses on setting up, carrying out, analyzing and reporting different types of research (experiments, corpus research and surveys) in a multi-cultural context.
The course deals with multiple aspects such as selecting and instructing participants from different cultural backgrounds, making stimulus materials, operationalizing constructs and eventually adapting them to cultural differences, and collecting the data. The course will be based on data sets that are reported on in the literature as well as data sets that are familiar to students from their own experience. Basic knowledge of statistics is required.
