Aims
After completing the course, students:
  • have improved their methodological skills as well as their ability to work with primary sources;
  • have developed further as independent researchers;
  • have broadened their knowledge and further specialized in the ancient, byzantine and medieval worlds.
Content
The so-called electives offer students a unique opportunity to chose a particular direction in which they want to specialize further within the various disciplines that are involved in the Ancient and Medieval Mediterranean Worlds Program. There is a broad range of possible electives, both at the Radboud University, other Dutch Universities or abroad: for instance a course on Roman law at the Radboud Department of Law, courses on early Christianity, Judaism and Islam from a theological perspective, or on the reception of Greek and Roman literature in the modern era.

Additionally, circumstances permitting, there may be courses at the KNIR (Royal Dutch Institute in Rome), the NIA (Dutch Institute in Athens) or the NIT (Dutch Institute in Istanbul), and (summer) courses at other European universities. Students are encouraged to orient themselves on courses on offer, and to talk to the coordinator of the Ancient and Medieval Mediterranean Worlds program to put together their package of electives.
