During the bachelor's programme, students mainly studied literature from their own disciplines (English, German, French, Spanish, Classical languages) and were introduced to key literary theories of the 20th century. This course builds on that knowledge and invites students to look beyond the boundaries of their own disciplines and critically assess scholarly work from various fields in literary studies.
Before the course begins, and in consultation with the course convenors, each participant will select a literary text and a theoretical approach from which s/he wishes to study the text, and place a small bibliography on Brightspace. The resulting material will be discussed in the first class meeting. Each participant will then compose a final, annotated bibliography, on the basis of which s/he will conduct a seminar of 2 x 45 minutes, in which s/he will give a presentation and lead the plenary discussion about the presentation with the other participants. All participants will prepare each seminar and contribute to the discussions. In the course of the semester, each participant will develop a portfolio consisting of material relating to her/his own work and the work of other participants as presented in the seminars. |
