After successful completion of this course the student will be able to:
- Recognize and understand the functions and positions of different cultural artifacts in relation to contemporary debates on memory in Spain and Central-America;
- Analyze different expressions of memory in a range of cultural artifacts, deploying relevant methods from the field of cultural studies;
- Apply relevant research methods and theories of memory in small, individual assignments;
- Deliver assignments in Spanish that are written clearly and correctly.

The principal aim of this course is to analyze different cultural representations and performances related to the memories of dictatorial pasts in Spain and Central-America. We will study examples from literature, film, truth and reconciliation reports and popular culture and discuss the specificities of memory in different cultural media and geographical contexts. We will also examine relevant institutional aspects of these cultures of memory in Spain and Central-America. |
