Upon completion of the course:
- You will be able to understand sentences and frequently used expressions about issues that are relevant to you.
- You will be able to communicate in simple and routine tasks that require a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and everyday issues.
- You will be able to describe aspects of the Dutch language (e.g. how it sounds, the origin of the language, differences between regions)

In the minor in Dutch Language, Culture and Communication, you will delve into various aspects of Dutch language and culture. The Dutch Language is one of the language proficiency courses from the minor, in which you will improve your Dutch language skills from level A1 to A2.
In this course, you will continue to improve your knowledge of the Dutch language and also about the Dutch language. You will expand your vocabulary, have longer conversations, write longer texts and understand more of the written and spoken language in your environment. During the course, you will develop your Dutch speaking, writing, reading and listening skills in more situations and you will learn more about Dutch grammar. Besides learning and practicing Dutch we will also look at the Dutch language itself. You can think of: How does Dutch sound and where? Which words are often used and in which contexts?
Extra information
The target language of this course is Dutch; Dutch is therefore the main language of instruction. You are therefore encouraged to speak Dutch as much as possible during lectures and group assignments.
This course is NOT suitable for native speakers of Dutch.
