The think tank is a course that lets you explore a societal issue related to migration and acculturation. The complexity of these issues is acknowledged by the Dutch Research Council, which has placed several questions related to migration and acculturation on the National Research Agenda:
- What are the causes and consequences of migration, and how can we deal with it?
- How can we strengthen social cohesion in a culturally and religiously diverse society?
In the think thanks you will engage with these questions and other questions by conducting research projects for governmental organizations, NGOs, museums, universities or other research institutes. You might, for example, get involved in preparing an exhibition for a museum. Or you might help map migration streams by processing qualitative and quantitative data. The think tanks allow you to apply the academic knowledge you have acquired to real-life problems, and provides you with the opportunity to collaborate closely with different societal organizations.
About the think tank
In this course you will work in interdisciplinary groups, supervised by a lecturer. The approach is similar to how project-based research is conducted in society. In the think tank, you will use the knowledge and skills you have gained in your studies and the other courses of the minor and will expand these further by learning from each other while working on the project. This will enable you to develop competencies for your professional future.
The combination of research, reflection, and practice is the key element of the think tank.
Are you considering an individual (research) internship instead of a think tank? Please make sure to take all the actions necessary on time (e.g. submit your request to the examination board by December 15). More information can be found in the minor guide.
