Aims
After completing the course, the student can apply the rules of spelling, grammar and punctuation governing the English language and will be sufficiently familiar with academic vocabulary, reading, logic and argumentation in an academic context.
Content
With the aim of letting all our bachelor’s students start their studies as successfully as possible, they are required to take a test of academic language proficiency in their first year. Students who are enrolled in an English-taught (specialisation of a) bachelor’s programme, complete an academic diagnostic assessment of English: the RADAr (Radboud Academic Diagnostic Assessment) English.

The objective of this test is to provide you with more information about your English language skills in an academic context. Passing this test means you have mastered the rules of spelling, grammar and punctuation governing the English language and that you are sufficiently skilled in the areas of academic vocabulary, reading, logic and argumentation.

In preparation for the RADAr, you can practice your language skills with a digital toolbox and some instructive videos on Brightspace. In the course of period 1, you will take the RADAr. Within a few weeks after the test, you receive an individual score report.
Should you fail to pass the assessment the first time, Radboud University offers three seminars in period 2 and 3 that allow you to work on your language skills and to prepare you for the resit. We strongly recommend you to register for these seminars, as a good command of English language skills is of crucial importance for the successful completion of a bachelor’s programme. Did you pass the test, but would you still like to practice your languages skills? Then you are also welcome to join the seminars.

All students at the Faculty of Arts need to pass the RADAr.
Participation in the remedial seminars is not compulsory, yet strongly recommended.

For more detailed information about, for example, the time and location of the lecture and the test, please check the study guide on Brightspace.
