- have explored the main issues, incl. technical issues, involved in developing effective TELL systems;
- understand the current capabilities of TELL systems are, and the potential for making further improvements. |

The aim of this course is to show how and to what extent advanced TELL systems can be used to help people acquire language skills and to conduct research on language learning. Topics covered are assessment, language input, language output, technology, elicitation, error detection and feedback. Special attention will be paid to the use of TELL systems for oral proficiency and to technology for providing corrective feedback, including their effectiveness and their feasibility in TELL environments. You will discover that TELL requires a multi-disciplinary approach which combines knowledge and expertise from different fields such as language acquisition, language learning, pedagogy, system design, ergonomics, ICT and HLT. |
