Aims
After successful completion of this course the student will be able to:
  • Describe the most relevant historical and cultural developments in Spain;
  • Apply this knowledge in order to analyze a limited number of historical phenomena and cultural artifacts (film, visual arts, architecture, literature).
Content
This course is an introduction to the main historical and cultural developments in Spain, from its early history to the 21th century. Key subjects in the first part of the course are cultural and religious diversity in medieval Spain and the development of the Spanish empire during the 16th and 17th centuries. In the second part of the course we will focus on processes of modernization.
