The course attempts to give an overview of some of the more important issues in the field of operations management and logistics, all within a strategic context. Amongst the topics to be covered are the following: strategy (which serves as a unifying link to the various aspects of operations management and logistics), global operations, service operations, design of goods and services, also as a process strategy. Other topics include project management, layout, location, inventory management, materials requirements planning, quality, customer services, and physical distribution. More technical topics, like simulation, linear programming or queuing theory, are touched upon. The emphasis in logistics will be on supply chain management issues with particular emphasis on the issues of sustainability and/or green logistics, and to globalization, since more and more products are being manufactured offshore.
