After successfully completing the course, students will have gained elementary insight into the primary process of academic knowledge development. They will have mastered a number of academic skills (at an elementary level), which they will use and develop further in the further course of their studies and need in their professional practice.

Upon successfully completing the course, students are - with guidance - able to:

  • Choose and explore a research topic by using academic databases to identify relevant academic literature on the topic;
  • Formulate a research question suitable for a small-scale paper based on literature research;
  • Collectreview, and draw sound conclusions from academic literature, backed by scientifically sound arguments;
  • Write and orally present a small-scale scientific paper on a topic relevant to business administration;
  • Reflect on their own development by appraising their acquired knowledge and skills;
  • Correctly reference scientific sources and avoid plagiarism.
Inhoud
Academic Skills (AS) is a practical course based on assignments and taught in groups of maximum 18 students. The groups are supervised by AS instructors, who also act as a mentor/study coach for the students in their AS-group. General academic skills are developed and practiced throughout the course, by means of various assignments. These assignments take students step-by-step through the process of literature research and writing a 4000-word academic paper on a chosen topic from the field of business administration. Due to developments in relation to the coronavirus, the course format can be adapted.
