Aims
After completing the course Political and Geographical Conflict Resolution the student is able to:
  • Critically assess the core theoretical debates in the conflict resolution/conflict transformation literature;
  • Critically discuss significant cases of post and ongoing conflict and the principal strategies used to help resolve these conflicts;
  • Apply and adopt the acquired practical and theoretical knowledge regarding conflict resolution/conflict transformation to similar cases.

Content
Central to this course is the spatial dimension of the various strategies for the prevention, management and solution of violent conflicts. Using cases such as the former Yugoslavia, Cyprus, Israel-Palestine and Rwanda, an overview of the various discourses on and strategies for conflict prevention, management and resolution is provided. The whole spectrum of options, ranging from (re)drawing borders to reforming electoral systems, is treated extensively.
