Aims

After completion of the course, you:

  • are acquainted with the study and research environment of the MMD programme, RIMLS and Radboudumc to find your way through the curriculum and make an appropriate choice for your first internship
  • have identified the knowledge required for following MMD courses to make, if necessary, a personal plan with your mentor how to attain this knowledge level
  • use literature data bases and Endnote to search, manage and correctly cite relevant journal articles and judge the value of scientific articles
  • recognize the requirements to produce correct, informative and attractive figures from raw data using Photoshop/Graphics software and appreciate the added value of these
Content
This course (29/08/2016 - 09/09/2016) introduces students to the programme Molecular Mechanisms of Disease, the Radboud Institute for Molecular Life Sciences (RIMLS), the Radboud University and the Radboud university medical center). Special attention is paid to the three themes of the MMD master's programme, which reflect the main research areas present in de RIMLS:
  • Infection, Immunity and Regenerative Medicine/Immunity-related Disorders and Immunotherapy
  • Metabolism, Transport and Motion/Metabolic Disorders
  • Cell Growth and Differentiation/Developmental Disorders and Malignancies
Basic knowledge is repeated and placed in the context of the master's programme. Several skills that are important to a scientist are practiced: referencing, making excellent pictures and time management and team skills.

Examination
Introduction to Molecular Mechanisms of Disease is assessed based on 3 assignments that are made during the course.
All assignments have equal weight and must be graded 6.0 or more.
If a student fails one of the assignments, he/she has to resubmit the assignment to the course coordinator.
