Aims
At the end of this course you can
1. understand the relationship of neurophysiology and the resulting behavior and cognition.
2. understand cellular activity underlying behavior and cognition.
3. analyze experimental data from behavioral experiments.
4. comprehend current literature in the field of cognition and behavior.
5. critically evaluate the literature from the field of neuroscience.
Content

Cognition and Behaviour are generated by networks of neurons. In the course ‘Neurphysiology of Cognition and Behaviour’ we will introduce to you the sensory representations underlying cognition, the motor representations underlying actions, and some of the circuits underlying sensory-motor integration, i.e. the generation of behavior. The course will cover principles as well as a range of specific examples from several species, which will be partially presented by students from recent examples in the literature.

Literature
• Kandel, Jessel, Schwarz (2012) Principles of Neural Science (selected chapters)
• PDF documents of review and original articles (will be provided via BB)

Teaching formats

• 6 hours computer course
• 24 hours lecture
• 6 hours laboratory course
• 8 hours student presentation
• 12 hours question session
• 21 hours problem session
• 69 hours individual study period
Extra information teaching methods:

• Presentations by the lecturer
• Literature presentation by each student
• Responsiecolleges
