After this course, you will be able to:
- Identify and solve genetic problems, so that in future you will be able to understand scientific articles with a genetic background
- Recognize the background of a number of human genetic disorders and to perform human pedigree analysis
- Calculate distances between genes and/or molecular markers and make genetic maps
- Solve population genetic and quantitative genetic problems

The course includes the following subjects:
- Type and origin of mutations (at gene and chromosome level)
- Advanced Mendelian genetics
- Human genetics (pedigrees)
- Linkage analysis
- Quantitative genetics
- Population genetics

Students are expected to have basic knowledge about mitosis, meiosis, general genetic terminology and basic Mendelian genetics. To encourage self-study on these subjects, a mandatory self-assessment test will be taken by all students before the course starts. The results of this test have no effect on the student's end grade.
