General information
Please note: for the specialisation TWM, other guidelines apply.

Completing an internship is very different from completing courses. You will have to make arrangements for your internship yourself. Based on your personal preferences you will have to make choices. These choices may be new for you and in this section we provide information that might be helpful.
Start by finding a research group within your field of research. You must choose at least one department from the list of departments belonging to your specialization (see under topics). Otherwise, you may select a different department at Radboud University of Radboudumc, or choose to do an external internship (see below).

When you are considering a certain internship, you write a letter of application to a staff member of the department. Sometimes somebody is specified as the contact of the department. This may be the head of department or one of the scientific staff members. Please do not hesitate to contact them. These people will not feel bothered by you; on the contrary, they will be flattered that you are interested in their research! They are specialists in their field and qualified to inform you about the possibilities at their own department or more broadly within their specialism.

Once you have chosen a certain internship, please register for your internship as explained in the document “registration procedure” and make the adequate arrangements with your future first evaluator and daily supervisor (when applicable). Discuss all the aspects of importance for your internship. The document “preliminaries” will be helpful in this discussion.

Grading is done digitally. The “evaluation forms” are also available in a printable version that can be used to see what you will be evaluated on. Please note, that you need a second evaluator, who will grade your report, too. You can ask any examiner authorized by the Examination Board of Biosciences.

External Internship
When you complete an internship outside the Radboud University or Radboudumc, it is an external internship. Just as with an internal internship, you will need an examiner authorized by the Examination Board of Biosciences to act as your first evaluator, and a second one to act as the second evaluator. The external internship needs to be approved by the Examination Board of Biosciences before the start. This approval can be given by the internal examiner on behalf of the Examination Board. We urge you to discuss this with your internship coordinator in an early stage. In general, your plans for going abroad can best start with an appointment with the International coordinator of the Master Biology mrs. C. Mooren, c.mooren@science.ru.nl.

Topics
For specialisations of the master’s programs in Biology and Medical Biology at least one internship has to be fulfilled at one of the specialisation departments, as indicated below.

MASTER’S MEDICAL BIOLOGY:
Research at the RU is organised within three institutions: Radboudumc (https://www.radboudumc.nl/en/radboud-institute-for-health-sciences), RIMLS (https://www.radboudumc.nl/en/radboud-institute-for-molecular-life-sciences) and Donders Institute (https://www.ru.nl/donders/). The character of Radboudumc is medical in a broad sense, RIMLS is working in the field of molecular and cell biology and Donders Institute in the field of brain and nervous system. Please study the sites to find the research of your interest.
RIMLS and Donders Institute have their own building, researchers of Radboudumc sometimes have their laboratory in the hospital, sometimes in Donders Institute, but mostly in RIMLS.
