Cursusdoelen
Do you know which specialisations and internships are most appealing to you? Do you know what jobs are available after graduation? Do you know what kind of position you would like to hold in 5 years from now? Every year students come to us, sometimes even at the end of their MSc programme, not really knowing what they are heading for. Obviously, the earlier you learn about the options and the more consciously you think about your interests, the more likely you end up where you want to be. More formally stated, the present course guides students of the MSc Biology through the Master's programme on their way to a position on the job market.

The objectives of the course are threefold:

1. to facilitate students in choosing a specialisation within the MSc Biology programme (specialisation orientation)

2. to inform students about internship possibilities in the field of biology and environmental science, both in research as well as management (internship orientation)

3.to encourage students to think about future career possibilities (job orientation)

Upon completing the Master programme graduates are qualified for various jobs including positions as a researcher, consultant, teacher, manager or officer. Employers usually include universities, schools, institutes, consultancy, governmental or non-governmental organizations and industry.
Inhoud
As a first Master course in the curriculum you will become acquainted with the research as carried in the Institute for Water and Wetland Research (IWWR), where most teachers reside. After a general introduction to the mission and research program of the IWWR, you will receive information from all IWWR research groups on the topics they study and the methods and instruments they use.

This program is supplemented with excursions to partners to get impressions of the settings you are likely to going to work in, the kind of problems you are going to face and how the knowledge you acquire is applied. You are expected to use the information of the present course for your portfolio, so that you can make well-informed choice for the specialisations, internships and jobs to choose/apply for.
