Aims
The student is acquinted with the concept of sustainable development and can handle derived concepts and methods for environmental and ecological research and management.
Content
In this 3EC course ecological and environmental concepts will be presented and discussed. Starting point will be the concept of Sustainable Development in its broadest sense (ecology/environment, economy and social aspects, otherwise known as the triple P concept: People, Planet and Profit). Emphasis will be on the historical context and on (handling) the unknown future of sustainable development. Subjects that will be passed in review are:

  • Ecosystem Health
  • Novel Ecosystems
  • Ecosystem Services
  • The Anthropocene.
