At the end of the course:
- you have compiled a personal and educational development plan based on the analysis of your interests, strengths and development areas in the context of the microbiology master’s specialization (D2)
- you are able to employ social and scientific skills required for MSc internships effectively, such as intercultural communication, good scientific practice, outreach and presenting (C5, C6, D2, F2)
- you are able to explain how major breakthroughs in microbiology have led to the progression of this scientific field in order to evaluate the current trends in microbial research (A3, B1)

This course will introduce you to the MSc Biology specialization Microbiology and will provide you with the necessary background information and skills to follow the mandatory courses and the research internships. You will get acquainted with the history of microbiology in the Netherlands and around the world and visit the microbiology museum Micropia. You will learn how to present your scientific work in oral presentations and science clips, how to communicate in an intercultural environment and how to perform scientific research following good scientific practice. Furthermore, you will receive information on the possible location of the internships, reflect on your ambitions and capabilities and compose a study plan.
