Aims
At the end of the course you can:
  • recognize and name molecular structures of nucleic acids
  • describe DNA replication and repair
  • render the processes of RNA synthesis and transcript maturation
  • reproduce the mechanisms of protein synthesis
  • name the differences between pro- and eukaryotes at the level of gene expression regulation
  • theoretically apply recombinant DNA technologies, namely:
    • Restriction mapping
    • Cloning
    • PCR
    • Sequencing
    • Consult bioinformatic databases and gene browsers
Content
This course aims to teach knowledge and concepts that underlie macromolecular biosynthesis with a focus on the central dogma of molecular biology whereby information flows from DNA to RNA to proteins.
