Content
As an academic professional, you need to be able to transfer information about your scientific field to your colleagues, as well as to non-professionals. For example, to attract research funds or to involve or inform citizens about (scientific) projects. In this course, the transfer of information to non-professionals is key: you will learn how to effectively convey specific information using accessible and clear texts and relevant information. A popular scientific article, a summary of your research results for external clients, or the online explanation about an ongoing project: the information should be written in an accessible and concise style.

In this course, text writing will be the most important technique for transferring information. Additionally, you will learn skills that are useful to transfer information through other techniques (such as a lecture or video blog): analyzing the target audience, structuring and editing your message, and choosing the most appropriate medium, writing style and genre to transfer the message to the target audience.

After an introduction with practical exercises and useful tips for different genres, you will work on a concise text on a subject of your choice. During this phase of the course we work in smaller groups, where you will discuss your product with fellow students and give each other feedback.

Learning by doing is key in this course. Improving your own text is a never-ending process and we want to guide you to continue to improve your own texts.
