Aims
Objectives of the course:
  • A basic understanding of the philosophical, ethical and societal dimensions of bioscience
  • Ability to analyse and address normative challenges emerging in bioscientific research
  • A basic understanding of the special nature of the scientific world-view in comparison to other forms of intellectual and socio-cultural activity
  • A basic understandig of the societal responsibility and integrity challenges of bioscientists
Content
The course addresses in an integrated manner philosophical and ethical aspects of bioscience via lectures and assignments. The course provides a window for exploring the philosophical, ethical and societal dimensions of scientific research in biology and the life sciences. Participants are empowered to reflect on the broader implications of their work and on the impact of bioscience on our worldview.
