After this course, you are able to:
- Obtain theoretical knowledge of the processes that play a role in the production and exploitation of our current and future energy resources.
- Quantitatively compare the possibilities and challenges for use of the different energy sources in our society.
- Evaluate the social implications of the different energy sources (verbal and written) in a coherent argument based on qualitative and quantitative analysis.

The course discusses the energy needs in our society and the use of various energy sources (fossil, nuclear, sustainable) that can meet the current and the future needs. After an introductory lecture on energy use and demand, various energy technologies, with their potential and social implications are discussed by invited experts from different disciplines. In a group assignment you will immerse in one of those energy technologies and include your findings in an elaborated report. During the final meeting you present the results of your group assignment to the other students, teachers and teacher assistants.
This course is also open to interested students from other faculties (e.g. faculty of management).
The language of the course is English; this applies to the lectures, presentations and reports.
The maximum number of participants for this course is 40.
