After the course the student will:
•Have knowledge of models to describe the mutual relationship between science / technology / society
•Be aware of the societal responsibility of scientists / technologists;
•Be able to put scientific and technlogical developments whithin her field of study in a broader (cultural) context and to analyze their ethical and societal implications;
•Be able to express and justify her standpoint on relevant topics in written assignments

In this course we will explore the place and meaning of technological developments (especially in the field of computer science) within society. Starting with some basic concepts in the philosophy of technology, we will look at the following 'clusters':
- ICT and privacy
- ICT and politics
- ICT and knowledge
We will also explicitly discuss current news and events and analyze their relevance for the students as future academics and professionals.
Instructional Modes

| Students will write a number of short papers and a final assignment. The final paper makes up 50% of the final grade, the average score of the short papers the remaining 50% |
