With the bachelor thesis you show that you
- can choose a scientific problem and limit it in an appropriate way;
- can determine and formulate a matching research question;
- can select a combination of scientific methods and / or techniques (at the level of the bachelor programme) to solve the problem;
- can report the results (as a bachelor thesis and by means of oral presentations) in a clear way.
It should be noted that in the bachelor thesis the emphasis is on the correct and proper use of scientific methods. Novelty is to be found in the combination of subject and approach. In contrast, in the master thesis project the emphasis is on scientific progress and novelty and deploying state-of-the-art scientific methods to complex situations.

The bachelor thesis is the summit of the bachelor program. In the thesis project you prove that you can find and determine a relevant scientific problem, and solve it using methods that you have learned during the bachelor programme. You present your work with short and long presentations, and deliver a scientific bachelor thesis.
Instructional Modes
- Intake: at the start of the course, you have an intake meeting with the course coordinators in which the supervisor, research subject, and personal semester planning is discussed
- Lectures: the plenary lectures discuss general information about developing a good research plan, writing the bachelor thesis, and giving a good oral presentation
- Presentations: during the course, you give three 'flash talks' to present the current status of your project
- Self-study: you conduct the research and have regular meetings with your supervisor, resulting in a formal bachelor thesis document
- Final presentation: with an approved formal bachelor thesis document, you give a final formal oral presentation about the research project

The bachelor thesis project is an individual research project. You select your supervisor who is an ICIS staff member of at least assistant professor (UD) level. The supervisor evaluates and grades the process, the formal bachelor thesis document, and the formal oral final presentation. The supervisor selects a second reader who evaluates and grades the formal bachelor thesis document and the formal oral final oral presentation. The supervisor uses this input to determine a final grade that will be communicated and checked with the bachelor thesis course coordinators.
