At the end of this course, the student can:
- construct and use equations to describe 1 and 2 dimensional motion
- analyze forces and apply Newton's laws
- understand the harmonic oscillator
- understand and apply the concepts of momentum and mechanical energy
- apply conservation laws
- start with the physics course NP036 Rotaties en periodieke bewegingen

The course covers Serway/Jewett chapters 1-9 and 15:
- Motion in one dimension; velocity, acceleration
- Motion in two dimensions; projectile motion, circular motion
- Newton's laws; concept of force, reference frames, mass and weight, force analysis, resistive and friction forces
- Oscillatory motion; spring-mass system, pendulum, damped and forced oscillations
- Work, kinetic and potential energy; (non-) isolated systems, conservation of energy
- Linear momentum, conservation of momentum
