Aims
This course replaces MOL009 and MOL015 of previous years. The contents will remain equal.

Mathematics 2:
After this course you can
  • integrate functions in one variable by means of substitution, partial integration and partial fractions
  • investigate aspects of curves in dimension 2 and 3 by parametrisation, differentiation and integration
  • understand and apply integration techniques for dimension 2 and 3
  • perform calculations with polar and spherical coordinates

Mathematics 3:
After this course you can
  1. understand and investigate differential equations and apply the standard solving techniques
  2. perform calculations with complex numbers and complex functions
  3. apply complex functions to second order differential equations, integrals, series and discrete processes
  4. apply combinatorial techniques and linear recursion to iterative processes

Content
Mathematics 2 comprises Integral Calculus in one or more variables.

Mathematics 3 is an extension of Mathematics 1 and Mathematics 2, with emphasis on differential equations, complex functions and discrete mathematics.
Topics
• Antiderivatives and Integration
• Conics and Parametric Equations
• Multiple Integrals
• Cylindrical and Spherical Coordinates

Test information
Intermediate tests and final written exam. This course can be passed by performing well on midterms. The course can also be passed by a final exam, independent of the result of the midterms.

Prerequisites
This is a course in the theme `Physics and Mathematics'. Required skills: Mathematics 1 (NWI-MOL004) or a similar course. Proficiency in Differential Calculus is indispensable.
