After this lab course you are able to:
- apply your theoretical knowledge of crystal growth on the crystallization of solids
- to prepare and perform a practical assignment in a systematic way
- show a crytical attitude towards techniques that are applied and the accuracy of measurements and systematic errors involved
- to write a clear and coherent report from each experiment

Prior to the lab, a few lectures introduce the students to the relevance of crystal growth and to the requirements for the lab reports.
During the lab course students in pairs perform practical assignments in the area of crystal growth and its application.
The assignments are more complex than first year exeperiments and require more indenpendence. Also the requirments for the written reports are more strict.
Topics are:
- Crystals: defects, dendrites, and fractals
- Shadowgraphy on growing crystals
- The solar cell
- Chemical gas phase deposition of diamond
