Aims
After this lab course, the student is able to:
  • independently plan advanced multi-step experiments
  • independently and safely carry out multi-step synthesis
  • carefully report and discuss experimental results according to the standards of scientific integrety
Content
The goal of this lab course is to learn to work as a synthetic chemist. You will be carrying out multi-step experiments. You will work independently in the lab, you will also be responsible yourself to plan and to carry out all the required work. The skills that you will develop during the class will be necessary for a bachelor and/or master internship in the field of synthetic chemistry.but can also be very helpful in the fields of medicnal chemistry and chemical biology.
Level
Third year bachelor
Presumed foreknowledge
Theory:
  • Synthesis of Biomolecules (NWI-MOL047)
  • Organic Chemistry (NWI-MOL095)

Lab courses:
  • Organic Chemistry Lab (NWI-MOL48A) or Chemical Biology Project (NWI-MOL49A)
One of the above lab courses needs to be finished with passing grade. This will be checked before the start of the Advanced Synthesis Lab.
Test information
Students are assessed during the course on their practical skills, theoretical knowledge, planning, and reporting.
Specifics
You will need to register for this course at least 4 weeks in advance. Upon registration you will be placed on a waiting list first. Definitve registration will be confirmed three weeks before start of the course.

In the case of not being able to attend one or more practical courses/lab days due to corona measures, the course coordinator will decide if the student is obligated to re-take the missed meeting and how this will take place.
