Aims

After the course, you are able to:

  • understand the relationship between molecular structure and reactivity of metalorganic compounds
  • classify and dissect the different types of reactions that can take place on d-block transition metals
  • apply these reactions in the synthesis of both small organic molecules and polymers
Content
Molecular structure, bonding and reactivity of organometalic compounds.
Elementary reaction mechanisms in the organometal chemistry and their application in catalysis, viz. Heck reactie, Suzuki coupling, polymerisations, etc.
Literature
• R.H. Crabtree, The organometallic Chemistry of the Transition Metals, 3rd ed., John Wiley and Sons
• C.E. Housecroft en A.G. Sharpe, Inorganic Chemistry, Pearson/ Prentice Hall
