Aims
  • The student can use thermodynamical principles to analyse the electrochemical equilibrium of ions across a semipermeable membrane and calculate the equilibrium potential
  • The student can derive and analyse the passive and active properties of the nerve cell and dendrites 
  • The student can analyse the properties of the Integrate-and-fire neuron, Hodgkin-Huxley and reduced models
  • The student can use phase-plane analysis, dimensionality reduction and basic tools from dynamical systems theory
Content
In the course Neurophysics 1 the student is introduced into the biophysics of neurons and neuronal networks, learning, as well as neurocomputational modeling. We will go through the biophysical properties of single neurons, how they deal with inputs from the external world and other neurons, and how they produce an output. The material is based on the textbook of Wulfram Gerstner et al.
