Aims
After successful completion of this course, you will have gained:
  • In-depth knowledge of elementary calculus topics such as limits, differential calculus, integral calculus.
  • Broad knowledge of advanced calculus topics such as vector calculus, multivariable calculus, series.
Familiarity with special functions and numbers.
Content
"Calculus, originally called infinitesimal calculus or "the calculus of infinitesimals", is the mathematical study of continuous change, in the same way that geometry is the study of shape and algebra is the study of generalizations of arithmetic operations.” - Wiki

Continuous change has a fundamental role in AI in general and machine learning in particular. For example, artificial neural networks are trained by heavily using differential calculus, whereas integral calculus is heavily used for calculating Bayesian probabilities. As such, you will see calculus come running back to you in most AI BA/MA courses (including neural networks and Bayesian statistics), academic papers and software libraries. This course will give you the necessary formation to embrace calculus and make it a welcome sight in any context.

In this course, the following topics will be covered:
  • Limits
  • Differentiation
  • Integration
  • Parametric and polar equations
  • Sequences and series
  • Multivariable and differential calculus
  • Differential equations
