To get hands-on research experience in the various research groups and labs of the Donders Graduate School for Cognitive Neuroscience and its affiliated research centres, Max Planck Institute, Behavioural Science Institute, Center for Language Studies.

On the MSc CNS Brightspace Community site (under Content) you will find a section called ‘Lab Rotations’ where various lab visits are advertised in the form of project proposals. Each proposal provides a short background description, tasks to be performed and the period in which the visit can take place. You can contact the relevant person for more information or to make an appointment. A single lab visit should correspond to a time investment of 28 hours (=1EC) and is finished by writing a two page summary of the visit. Personalized lab visits (i.e., a lab visit that is not advertised on Brightspace) can also be arranged. For more information on a personalized lab rotation, including an empty lab rotation proposal form, see the Brightspace Community site (under Content -> Lab Rotations). After three lab visits, the three summaries needs to be merged in a single (final) report (see the Community site for an example) and the final report needs to be submitted to the supervisor of the lab visit and the coordinator of this course. This end-product will be graded pass/fail by the coordinator.
In order to come in contact with diverse ways of approaching research questions, setting up and carrying out experiments, the labs that you visit can, for example, be part of different Donders Institute research themes, and/or be situated in different Donders Institute research centres. Two lab visits cannot be done within the same PI-group or lab. If you wish to extend your lab rotation to a bigger project, you may consider to take the course SOW-DGCN40 Capita Selecta (but discuss this option first with the on-site supervisor of the specific lab).
It is strongly recommended to complete all three lab visits within the first year of being in the MSc CNS programme.
