The Research Project represents the pinnacle of your studies as an Artificial Intelligence Masters students and gives you a perfect opportunity to take what you have learned during the program and apply it to a real problem, either in an academic, not-for-profit, or commercial research context. During this project, you will perform individual research on a topic of your choice within the domain of your chosen specialisation. Before starting your research project you must submit a project proposal which is approved by the AI master thesis and internship coordinator. If you do your research at a company, please make sure to read the "Checklist for external projects" and discuss any questions with respect to intellectual property (IP), on-disclosure agreements (NDAs) etc. with the thesis coordinator.
The research project can be done within the AI department, other academic departments at the Radboud University or a different university, or a company or non-academic (research) institute. It is also an option to go abroad and perform one's research project at a foreign research institute. You will be enrolled in one (or more) so-called 'thesis circles': groups of students and staff members all working on a specific field within AI that meet regularly and provide peer support and feedback. Your research project is finalized with a public presentation, the submission of the master's thesis, and a formal defense. Details and evaluation criteria are available in the "Master thesis and internship rules & regulations".
The research project is a very important part of your AI Masters study and it is important to carefully select a project that is both something that you enjoy working on and that you can realistically achieve in the time available (9 months full time). To help with this process, we maintain online information on thesis projects available at companies and at the DCC. We suggest you also attend the BBB career event ( www.bbb-careerevent.com/) that is organized every year in May at the Huygens building at our campus.
The "Master thesis and internship rules & regulations", the "Checklist for external projects", as well as more information about project options, possible supervisors, etc. for the research project will be available on the AI master programme institutional Brightspace pages. If you have questions, contact the AI thesis and internship coordinator or student advisor. For more information about the procedures and options for doing your research project abroad you can contact the internationalization coordinator internationalofficer@ai.ru.nl.
