The course makes you familiar with major theories and research methods for the understanding and production of spoken and written language. You will gain insight into the complex mental processes underlying efficient oral and written communication between healthy adults, and the neurological basis of these processes.

Inhoud

The following aspects of language communication will be treated:

  • Fundamental linguistic concepts
  • Reading and listening, with special focus on word recognition and the mental lexicon
  • Speaking
  • Representation and processing of language by the brain.

Where appropriate, recent language-processing research by cognitive neuroscientists will be discussed.

Toetsinformatie
Written examination. During the course two written partial examinations will be offered that can replace the full written examination.

Voorkennis

• Completed the first-year Psychology or other first-year university programme.
• Artificial Intelligence students can attend in their first year, as long as they meet admission requirements for the second year.
