Aims
Course aims:

  1. One aim of the course Work, Health and Performance (WHP) is to acquire knowledge about factors influencing well-being, health and performance in a work related context. Examples of themes addressed in the course are: recovery from work, work home balance, New Ways of Working (flexibility in working times and remote working), occupational interventions, economic evaluations of interventions, safety and error management at work, national and international legislation and directives on occupational health and occupational risk assessment & evaluation. You also learn how the acquired knowledge can be transferred to the applied field of WHP. (EK 1.2, 1.8 and 2.1)
  2. You learn to characterize and compare theoretical work stress models. Moreover, you are expected to use your knowledge of these theories to interpret empirical findings as well as situations in the applied field of WHP. (EK 1.8 and 2.1)
  3. You acquire knowledge on legislation and directives on working conditions and occupational health. By the end of the course, you are expected to be able to identify the legal requirements set for risk assessment & evaluation within organisations. (EK 1.2)
  4. By the end of the course, you (i) can evaluate the quality and content of contemporary WHP-interventions, (ii) can characterize interventions by means of a scientific framework for prevention and – intervention and (iii) are able to identify relevant factors (regarding intervention content, -implementation process, and -context) that are crucial for the effects of interventions.(EK 1.8, 2.1, 3.2 and 3.3)
  5. Finally, you are able to apply the knowledge gained in the course to write an advisory report (essay) about an occupational health topic that is relevant to the professional field. (EK 2.1, 3.2, 3.3, and 4.2)
Content
This course builds on the knowledge that you acquired in previous courses, such as ‘Introduction to Work, Organisation and Health’ (PSMWOH10A)) and ‘Work Psychology (PSB3BE40E). The course Work, Health and Performance (WHP) expands WHP-knowledge, but you also learn how this knowledge can be transferred to the applied field of occupational health psychology. Examples of relevant WHP-themes within the course are: recovery from work, telepressure, work home balance, New Ways of Working, stress interventions, economic evaluations of interventions, safety and error management at work, national and international legislation and directives on occupational health,  and occupational risk assessment & evaluation. You apply the knowledge gained in the course to write an advisory report (essay) about an occupational health topic that is relevant to the professional field.

General
Due to Corona crisis, the lectures of the course will be presented online. We will record the lectures in advance and the recorded lectures (and supplementary materials) will be uploaded one week prior to the scheduled lecture so that students have one week to watch the lectures and post questions on the discussion board. Each course week, during the scheduled lecture time, the instructor and coordinator will attend this 45 minute interactive Q&A session during which the instructor will answer the questions that were posted on the discussion board and open the floor for additional questions, comments and/or discussions on relevant, applied or complex topics related to the theme of that week.
