Aims
  • Students will be introduced to central themes in the literature on globalisation and will be able to connect these to issues related to sexuality.
  • Students will learn to link current socio-cultural and political developments concerning sexuality to aspects of processes of globalisation.
Content

If the world is becoming a global village, how does this affect the world's sexuality? This course starts from the assumption that globalisation affects all areas of life, including that of sexuality. We will discuss the impact of globalization on sexual desires and practices (sex tourism for instance), sexual identities (the emergence of global lesbian and gay identities) and politics concerning sexuality (HIV/AIDS campaigns, human rights, trafficking). Throughout the course central themes from the literature on globalisation will be taken up and connected to case studies on sexuality.
