This course provides an overview of the main principles by which information is represented and transmitted in the brain to create actions as well as an introduction to the neural basis of perception and cognition in humans and animals. Attention will be given to topics such as neuro-degenerative and neuro-developmental disorders.
Topics:
- Basis of neural activity and transmission
- Representation of the environment by sensory systems (chemical, visual, auditory, vestibular and somatosensory)
- Motor functions and the underlying neurophysiological aspects
- The genetic basis of behaviour
- Pre and post-natal brain development
- Cognitive functions (such as memory) and the underlying neural substrates
- Sleep physiology
- Neuro-degenerative/developmental disorders
Instructional modes
