In order to have you begin your studies successfully, you are required to sit a test of academic language proficiency in your first year. If you are enrolled in an English-taught bachelor’s programme or an English-taught specialisation of a bachelor’s programme, you are to complete an academic diagnostic assessment of English: the RADAr (Radboud Academic Diagnostic Assessment) English.
The test is aimed at gauging your command of the English language in an academic context. The following aspects of language proficiency are assessed; writing skills (grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and punctuation), listening skills (listening, listening comprehension, and summarising), and reading skills (vocabulary, logic, argumentation, text structure, and fallacies).
In preparation for the RADAr, you can attend a university-wide lecture. Subsequently, you can practice your language skills with a digital toolbox on Brightspace. During the course of period 1, you will sit the RADAr at a moment scheduled by the faculty. Within a few weeks after test participation, you receive an individual score report. Should you score below the norm, Radboud University offers three seminars in period 2 and 3 to eliminate your deficiencies. We strongly recommend you to register for these seminars, as a good command of English language skills is of crucial importance for the successful completion of a Bachelor’s programme. Did you score above the norm during the test, but would you still like to practice your languages skills? Then you are also welcome to join the seminars.
Participation in the introductory lecture or remedial seminars is not compulsory; participation in the RADAr is.
For more detailed information about, for example, the time and location of the lecture and the test, please refer to the study guide on Brightspace. |
