From Turkish Education System to Research on Systems Thinking and Technology Integration: Joint Session with Two PhD Researcher from Türkiye

In this joint session, we will begin with a brief introduction to the Turkish education system, with a focus on science education and recent curriculum-oriented developments, to situate our work (approximately 7 minutes). We will then present our dissertation research. First, Ebru Mazlum Güven will introduce her dissertation work on TPACK and technology integration in science education, focusing on how teachers design, implement and reflect on technology-integrated instruction and what supports meaningful integration (10-15 minutes). Next, Onurhan Güven will present his dissertation research on systems thinking in middle school science education, including the conceptualization of systems thinking skills, approaches to assessing these skills, and implications for teaching and learning science topics that involve natural phenomenon (10-15 minutes). We will conclude our presentation with a discussion and Q&A section on our research and future collaboration opportunities. 

Presenters

Onurhan Güven holds a PhD in Science Education and works as a research assistant in the Department of Science Education at Trabzon University, Türkiye. His main research interests include systems thinking in science education, science teacher education, and environmental education.

Ebru Mazlum Güven, PhD, is an assistant professor at Bayburt University. Her academic specialty is science education and teacher training, and her research interests include ICT integration in science education, technological pedagogical content knowledge and peer tutoring.
