Artificial Intelligence (AI) is now an integral part of our everyday life, and the educational field is no exemption. Since late 2022, the availability and accessibility of Generative AI (GenAI) tools have expanded rapidly, moving beyond earlier AI applications such as intelligent tutoring systems and adaptive learning platforms. This acceleration has been accompanied by an optimistic adoption, bordering on the overoptimistic. There is also a distinct lack of fundamental reflection on basic conceptual issues, e.g. what the notion of sustainability means in a teaching and learning context. A dynamic and critical rethinking of how GenAI tools can and should be integrated into educational contexts ethically, responsibly and sustainably is therefore urgently needed. Indeed, in Higher Education (HE), there are many advantages for the different stakeholders, but also many important
issues are raising.
