dr. J.R.O. Bartosch (Julia)

Julia is an Assistant Professor at NSM, Radboud University. She holds a PhD (2018) from Freie Universität Berlin (Germany) and, prior to joining Radboud, was a postdoctoral researcher at the same institution. She has also been a research fellow at the ILR School at Cornell University (USA), as well as a visiting researcher at the School of Commerce at Waseda University (Japan) and King's College London (UK).

The focus of Julia's research is the interface between business and society, with a particular interest in all aspects of the governance of corporate sustainability and business ethics. Her work has been published in journals such as Journal of Management Studies, Research Policy, Business & Society, Journal of Business Ethics, Socio-Economic Review and Industrial and Labour Relations Review (ILRR).

Julia has a background in business studies and sociology, and she often applies a comparative approach to her work. She combines organisational theory, institutional theory, comparative capitalism research and economic sociology. Her methodological approaches range from theory generation/refining to qualitative comparative analysis (QCA) and quantitative approaches for theory testing. Since December 2025, she is Head of COMPASSS, the international community for set-theoretical configurational methods for cross-case analysis (such as QCA): https://compasss.org/about/.
