Julia is an Assistant Professor at NSM, Radboud University. Previously, she was a postdoctoral researcher at the Freie Universität Berlin (Germany), where she also received her PhD (2018). She was a research fellow at ILR School at Cornell University (USA) and a visiting researcher at the School of Commerce at Waseda University (Japan).
Julia's research focuses on the interface between business and society. She is particularly interested in how companies contribute to societal problems such as environmental degradation and gender inequality. In her work, she explores which organisational practices and structures, as well as societal institutions, exacerbate problems, and which enable collaborative organising for societal change. The interactions between various actors is central to these questions, including business, civil society, government and labour actors.
Julia has a background in sociology and business studies and applies a comparative approach in most of her work. She combines organizational theory, institutional theory, comparative capitalism research, and economic sociology. Her methodological approaches are ranging from theory generating/refining over qualitative comparative analysis (QCA) to quantitative approaches for theory testing. To further develop QCA, Julia is in the management team of COMPASSS, the international multi-disciplinary forum for QCA (Qualitative Comparative Analysis).
Julia is committed that our own research becomes more inclusive and diverse. Find out more here: https://blog.oup.com/2023/10/what-does-community-mean-to-you/ , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oj43lq61sj8
