Femke Bekius is Assistant Professor at the Research and Intervention Methodology group at the Faculty of Management Sciences. She is an interdisciplinary researcher with a MSc in Logic & Mathematics (2013) and received her PhD (2019) from Delft University of Technology. The dissertation focused on understanding and supporting complex decision-making by using game concepts in the Dutch railway sector. She is a research fellow at the Institute of Advanced Studies (UvA) since 2025.
Currently, her research continues in area of complex decision-making and the use of participatory approaches (i.e. involving stakeholders) to understand and support decision-making in infrastructure and healthcare systems. She co-supervises PhDs in NWO projects On the Move and PRONTO concerning sustainable infrastructure transformations; collaborates in a ZonMw project PARAPLU and obtained a collaboration grant with researchers and clinicians from Western University (Canada) to support decision-making in healthcare networks.
Femke has experience in working with professionals in (public) organizations, e.g. she co-acquired and coordinates projects with the Dutch National Police, Municipality of Nijmegen, Province of Gelderland and Dutch Ministries. She is an expert in applying participatory approaches, like serious gaming, vision-making and problem-structuring with professionals as well as citizens. She is a co-chair of the Radboud Young academy (since 2025), and contributes to themes like Recognition & Rewards and cross-faculty interdisciplinary collaboration.
