I am a mathematician specialized in Analysis and in the Calculus of Variations. My research focuses mainly on problems that can be tackled and understood by using a variational approach. In particular, I am currently working on questions stemming from Materials Science, Imaging Science, and Big Data.

I am a member of the Radboud Young Academy, and a Board memeber of the Calculus of Variations NL community.

Projecten

Phase Separation in Composite Materials. The goal of this project is to develop rigorous mathematical tools in order to describe, understand, and control the distribution of stable phases inside a composite material. The results that we will obtain will pave the way towards a rigorous multi-scale analysis of these phenomena. These will lay the foundation for deriving sound macroscopic models needed in numerical simulations to not only capture what is observed in experiments, but also to design specific macroscopic behaviors for cutting-edge applications. Analysis of Self-Assembly in Polymers. This project will push the frontiers of mathematical investigations by considering, for the first time, more complex architectures of copolymers in the bulk and in thin films, which are cases of high interest for applications. We will provide a sound understanding of the mechanisms that regulate pattern formation in such complex systems by using rigorous mathematical tools. The outcomes of this project will open new directions of mathematical research, which will inspire the future works of analysts, and will provide researchers in experimental sciences and in numerical simulations with powerful mathematical results that will be used to interpret the results of their investigations. Morphological Instabilities in Epitaxial Crystal Growth . The goal of this project is to mathematically study physical models that describe these complex phenomena in order to check their soundness, and to provide suitable approximate models that will be used in numerical simulations.
