I do research at the intersection between Artificial Intelligence, Neuroscience, Robotics and the Social Sciences, in order to understand how complex societies and cultures emerged from the interaction of groups of individuals, and what particular cognitive processes underlie such collective phenomena.

In particular, I study the emergence of collective behavior in biological and artificial systems. I approach the topic from a computational perspective by building cognitive architectures informed by neuroeconomics and social cognitive neuroscience. I test these models in robotic and virtual agents in order to shed light on the computational principles, at the cognitive level, that generate dyadic- and population-level emergent phenomena such as cooperation and the formation of social norms and conventions.
