Dr Nariné Ghazaryan is an Assistant Professor in International and European Law at the Department of International and European Law. She is a member of the Research Centre for State and Law (SteR). Prior to joining the Department, she was an Associate Professor in EU Law at the School of Law, University of Nottingham, UK (2015-2021). Earlier she worked as a Lecturer in Law in Brunel University London (2011-2015).

Dr Ghazaryan specialises in EU International Relations Law. She is particularly interested in the relations between the EU and its neighbouring countries, as well as the EU external policies on human rights and democracy promotion. She has published widely on the EU’s role in the world and its external human rights policy (see Publications below).

She has also acted as an expert for projects funded by EU institutions. As part of the team of the Human Rights Law Centre at Nottingham, she authored a report on the EU's human rights policies in Ukraine and Moldova within the EU-funded FRAME project (Fostering Human Rights Among European Policies), a four-year (2013-2017) collaborative project involving 19 research centres from around the world. She also acted as a co-author (together with András Rácz and Sergiy Gerasymchuk) of a 2018 report for the European Parliament analysing the European Union's, including the European Parliament's policies towards human rights issues in Ukraine.
Dr Ghazaryan was also a Visiting Professor at the Department of Political Science, University of Pisa.

Dr Ghazaryan has extensive experience of Bachelor and Master thesis supervision. She has also supervised PhD thesis guiding students to successful completion of their research studies.

She has extensive experience of teaching EU Constitutional Law, EU Internal Market Law, EU International Relations Law and other subjects.
